Iceberg and Mountains

Tracy Arm - Southeast Alaska

Iceberg and Mountains - Tracy Arm - Inside Passage - Southeast Alaska

Looking back at the images from last week’s adventure solidifies the wonderful trip we had and the sights we saw. I can’t believe the good fortune we had with the weather and the animal behavior we witnessed.

Alaska’s beauty is amazing even when it’s raining but delightful when the sun shares the sky with the clouds.

I can never get enough time with the ice in the fjords that we explore. The dramatic sky enhanced the scenes we saw and photographed from our sailboat. My soul is enriched by the folks I traveled with and the natural world we explored together.

I look forward to doing this again real soon. I hope you have some wonderful adventures in nature too.

Embrace the journey!

Some information about how the shot was taken:

Photographing from a boat can be tricky. Tripods don’t work well as they can amplify the movements of the boat. On some calm days I do use a tripod when using a long lens. On the day this image was made we encountered smooth seas. I used a 24-120mm lens which can easily be handheld using vibration reduction and a shutter speed of more than 1/200 of a second. The light was bright which allowed me to stop the lens down to help get the iceberg and the mountains in sharp focus.
